Yesterday’s post begins with a reference to a promoted post I wrote for See Jane Write in January 2015 that I intended to be part of a soft launch of this Shinecast website.
When I started writing that post it was my intention to give a short intro and then essentially rewrite that promoted post in its entirety, with a few comments interspersed. Then I veered off into a different direction, explaining the detours I took last year into side projects instead focusing on the Shinecast.
So, here, now I give you essence of the first half of the post I published on See Jane Write (with a few edits) and a couple of paragraphs from the end. I’m pulling out the middle section for a separate blog post.
Find Your True North to Find Your Life Path
Is your inner compass pointing to your true north? Do you even know?
Do you feel overwhelmed by life, by your desire to be healthy, balanced and fulfilled in whatever roles you’ve chosen–or landed in by default?
When I was in my mid-20s I found myself floundering….trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I was on the path to a successful career as a business lawyer, but it didn’t seem to be the right path for me. Practicing business law for another 30 years just didn’t seem to be my calling. It didn’t seem to be the purpose I was designed for. I was a good and dedicated lawyer, but the work left me feeling empty at the end of each day.
Not long after my 30th birthday, I became the first woman shareholder in a prominent Alabama law firm. I had followed most of the rules and, on the outside, I was successful. Inside, I felt like I was shriveling, dissolving, evaporating.
During those years, I embarked on the journey to self-discovery that led me to where I am today — a very happy person, still pursuing my truth north. Still growing, still discovering.
My journey wasn’t always easy or direct and, for that reason, I feel compelled to help others as a teacher, writer, mentor, guide and I hope to do that through the Shinecast.
The Shinecast is a multimedia project designed to help you discover your true north and walk on the path that is right for you. That path that allows you to discover and BE your whole, REAL, true self.
Forward Progress Requires a Growth Mindset
At age 52, I am happy not because I’m at some destination point or even because I’ve achieved some level of success that society deems notable.
In fact, I haven’t really achieved anything noteworthy. To the extent I ever had any worldy success (which, I suppose would have been the shareholder standing in a law firm), I gave it up to be true to myself
I’m happy because I’m still growing, still walking on the path to being all I was created to be.
The Shinecast® multimedia enterprise is designed to provide the foundation and illumination to help YOU walk the path to your true north.
I’d love to have you join the Shinecast movement.
It’s time to go forth and SHINE!
Footnotes:
My reference to an inner compass and true north was inspired by a book I was reading in December 2014, Inner Compass by Margaret Silf [Amazon affiliate link.]
Around the same time, one of my podcasting role models, Srini Rao, began talking about following a compass, not a map, to find and unleash your unmistakeable creative self. I don’t recall if I’d heard him speak about the inner compass at the time I wrote this, but I wanted to acknowledge the he’s also used the compass as a metaphor in a similar context.
